Last Day of Class

As a student learning to be a teacher, I am glad I had to take this class. I learned so many things that will be useful to me when I become a teacher. There were so many things out there that I didn't know exsisted. I really enjopyed this class because I think the things I kearned in here will make me a better teacher. One thing I learned in this class was how to make a website. I will use this when I become a teacher to make a class website the the students and their parents. Integrating technology in the classroom will keep the students intreset in what they are learning. The ISTE-NET that we covered in this class was to Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. Instructional Technology class taught me a lot of thing that will help me in my professional growth as a teacher. After finishing this class I have completed Standard 4 under the West Virginia Teaching Stanards. Click here my reflection of Instructional Technology under Standard 4 in my portfolio.

Movie Maker

Today we learned how to use Windows Movie Maker. I like Movie maker better than PhotoStory. Windows Movie Maker is better because you can do a lot more options to choose from. When editing your movie you have more options to choose from. In Windows Movie Maker you can insert your PhotoStory right into Movie Maker and edit it from there. We have learned about many different ways to present information to your class. I have really enjoyed learning about all these new ways of introducing information because it keeps the class excited abou learning. Cick here to see my video on Youtube. We also started to make our Portfolio on Google Docs. Click here to see my Portfolio site.

Converting

Today we learned how to convert an APA Paper from a PDF file to a word document. We has our Action Research Paper saved as a PDF file in Google Docs but some of us needed to make changes on our paper. You can not make changes to a PDF file so that is why we needed to convert it to a Word Document. Click here to see the Jing video I made to show you how to convert a PDF file to a Word Document. Pop Quiz

~When writing our action research paper we learned a lot of new things about Google Docs. Here are some new things I learned:

  • I learned how to upload documents from my computer to Google Docs.

  • I learned how to save doucuments as a PDF and Word through Google Docs.

  • I learned how to share documents with my teacher.

  • I learned how to add things to my document and resave them.

  • If you share your document with someone else they can make changes to your document.

~You can also save Excel documents on Google Docs. When writing our paper we used APA formatting. This was fairly new to me so I learned a lot about that as well.

  • Every page must have a Page header that has a title and page number.

  • The paper has 4 major parts; Title Page, Abstract, Main Body, and Refrences.

~Today we also had to make 2 videos on Jing. The first video we had to make was hoe to install the analysis toolpack to excel. Click here to watch that video on how to istall the anaylsis toolpack to Excel. The other video we had to make was show how to do a t-test on Excel. Click here to see my other video on how to do a t-test. On the T-test video there was not a significant difference between the pre and post test scores. The way you figure this out is that if the number is greater than .05 then there is no significant difference and if the number is less than .o5 then there is a significant difference in the scores.

There is a function that that will tell you if there is a significant difference between gender and classification beteween their test scores. Here is that function: Significant differences existed for the two groups [(F(1,1) = 3.89, p = 0.00)]. Click here to see my Final Draft of the Action Research Project on Google Docs. APA Formatting

For the last week or two our class has been working on a Action Research Project. We used an Excel Spreadsheet to diplay our data. We then used that data to write our paper. We also used that data to make graphs and tables to insert into our Action Research Paper. We learned how to write our Action Research Paper by using the APA format. I used a correct APA formatted paper as a guide to write my paper. Click here to see this example. This took a few class periods to learn how to do but it will come in handy when you become a teacher. Click here to see my Action Research Paper. West Virginia's Average vs. National Average Test Scores

Today we looked at NAPE Testing scores for West Virginia and the nation. We used a website caleed Kids Zone to compare these two average scores and make a graph. These graphs were to compare the West Virginia average score with the National average scores. On the first graph I compared 4th grade West Virginia's Math average with the 4th National math average. I also created a Google Doc to express that we need to spend more money on our math program in West Virginia. Click here to see that document. One the second graph I compared 8th grade West Virginia's Reading Average to the 8th grade National reading average. I created a Google Doc for this as well, but this time I had to defend West Virginia's average reading score. Click here to see my document.

Empathy Quotient

I scored a 44 on the Empathy test. It said that my score was average. The test had many different questions you had to answer and I leanred somethings baout myself. I had to think about some things that I don't normally think about. Click here to see the empathy test. As an elementary school teacher, I think that it is important to have empathy for your students because you use to be in their shoes. Also because you will have many different children that will have different situations so you need to keep and open mind and be able to have empathy for them. Empthy is a way to show that you sare for your students and that you want to help them learn. So that is how empathy goes along with the ISTE NETS.
